Standing out at a Job Fair can make a difference in your job hunting. Job Fairs are starting to pick up, and Dice is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a Bay Area Career Faire in early 2010, 10 companies as showing up, and a major job search company has 82 career faires scheduled for 2010 across the United States.
How do you rise above the crowd at a Job Faire? The contention can be substantial, but you can help yourself stick out from the herd with early homework. At AA-Careers, we have a straight-forward 6-step process to get ready. Plan to go? Here’s how to prepare:
First, research the organizations that are going and pick your targets. Use the World Wide Web to check out the companies that are there beforehand. Go to their internet sites and see if they have their openings listed. Pick a sound number to go after, and get ready to spend about an hour researching each one. It’s hard to do more than ten in a day, and four to six is a much more reasonable target. For each company, you want to know: key product lines, recent news, and executive names. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You’ll end up with a page or two of research for each company/job.
Second, if there are job postings on the web, read them to see what the hiring manager is looking for. Create a mapping of your achievements and skills to the requirements of the job. Make the nomenclature match. If the hiring organization calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The achievements should be written in the style of the hiring company.
Third, create a ‘mini sales pitch’ for each potential company/position combination. Write down a 60 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat verbally depicting why you are a key prospect for that job. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet people at the job kiosk.
Fourth, modify your resume for each opportunity. The objective on your resume should exactly match the position you’re aiming for. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the accomplishments and skills that most clearly match the job requirements. Especially at a Job Fair, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be very easy to see that you’re a fit based on your resume.
Fifth, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress nicely and be well groomed. Don’t overdress (this isn’t a date!) and don’t underdress (no jeans or t-shirts, no matter how much you paid for them). Avoid strong cologne or perfume.
Finally, practice your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each opportunity - bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a distinctly marked folder. Keep them in a light briefcase or folio.

The Blu-ray Disc belongs to a new generation of optical discs capable of staging high density data. Blu-Ray technology is based on a blue-violet coloured laser. The blue laser operates at a wave length of 405 nm, while older technology such as DVDs and CDs are based on red and infrared lasers that works at 650 and 780 nm. Since the wave length is shorter with a blue laser, the new Blu-ray technology makes is possible to store much more information
The advantage with the Blu-ray technology is that the laser beam can be focused much more tightly at the surface of the disc. Tight focus means that a smaller spot will be produced on the surface on the disc, and when the spots become smaller there will naturally be room for more information on each disc. The minimum spot size of any laser depends on a naturally accruing phenomenon called diffraction. The narrow beam of light sent out from a laser will always diverge into a wider beam eventually, due to the natural diffraction of waves. Diffraction will also occur the waves meet an obstruction. By reducing the wavelength of a laser, we can affect the diffraction.
In Blu-ray technology, the diffractions is also affected by the fact that the lens used to focus the light has a higher numerical aperture than the lenses found in ordinary DVDs - 0.85 instead of 0.6. Blu-ray technology based appliances are also equipped with a dual-lens system of supreme quality, and the cover layer has been made thinner in order to prevent unwanted optical effects. All this makes it possible for a Blu-ray laser to focus on much smaller spots. The optical improvements are accompanied with a new method for encoding data which makes it possible to store even more data on the Blu-ray disc.
The standard for Blu-ray technology has been developed as a joint venture between several major manufacturers of PCs and consumer electronics, including Sony and Philips. The group is called the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). The first Blu-ray recorder was launched in Japan in 2003, by Sony. Today, Samsung, JVC, Matsushita (Panasonic) and LG Electronics are all examples of companies using Blu-ray technology in their products. Hewlett Packard has announced that they will release desktop PCs equipped with Blu-ray technology in late 2005.
The main competitor for the Blu-ray technology is the HD DVD format which is also capable of storing more information than a normal DVD. The Blu-ray technology does however allow for more information per layer than the HD DVD format - 25 GB compared to 15 GB. The Blu-ray technology will on the other hand most likely be more expensive to support, at least initially, which can make the HD DVD a tempting alternative. In a Blu-ray disc, the data is stored extremely close to the surface. This made the first Blu-ray discs extremely vulnerable to scratching and many users preferred the tougher HD DVD discs. Since 2004, all Blu-ray discs are coated with a clear polymer called “Durabis” which makes them much more durable. According to the developers of Durabis, the TDK Corporation, a coated Blu-ray disc will work even after being attacked with a screwdriver.

One can only appreciate the magnificent scale of data centers these days by going through them. And one cannot help but be impressed by the huge halls and state-of-the-art equipment with the physical security and resilience to power failure that these facilities boast of. And all these are managed by only a few employees.
But the truth of the matter is that only those who can afford to throw away millions of dollars will ever be able to afford enterprise-class data centers. As a matter of fact, a lot of enterprises don’t bother, at least not for their company’s complete data center needs. Instead, they opt for collocation providers who are already investing on these systems on a grander scale.
Quorcica Service Director Bob Tarzey went on a tour of Equinix’s data center in West London to learn more and be impressed about how such facilities are managed.
The attention to security, writes Tarzey, was manifested by the fact that location details were not provided until they have signed a confidentiality agreement. Interestingly, it’s actually difficult to keep a facility as large as that a secret. All you need to do is take a drive along the various industrial properties and you can easily point out which ones are the data centers. These will be the large shiny buildings that are a couple of storeys high, a few windows and no high profile company logo. And, don’t forget the strict security all over it.
Colocation providers usually provide data center spaces combined with data and power connections needed to run the set up. Clients simply rent spaces and then install their own computers in them.
Computing power and the need for it may understandably increase over time and collocation providers are faced with the challenge of helping mitigate the issue instead of aggravating it. The data centers of today have a lot of responsibilities resting on their shoulders. One only needs to consider the impact that IT is making in today’s businesses. And for this, data centers have become temples of the industry.

ionization Detector
Within the ionisation detector houses a little amount of Americium-241 and two plates of opposite voltage. Photoelectric sensors are not widely used because it takes a lot of smoke before the alarm goes off. Owners are worried that it might be overly late once the warning signal sounds. Photoelectric sensors comprise of two ducts, one is to give out light and the other detects it. If fume molecules are present in the air, this will intervene with the signal and the alarm goes off.
