University and AeroVironment, Inc, have come up with a unique solution for the wind power problem. Their idea is to abandon the wind farm idea completely. Instead, they are looking to applications that can be used on a per structure basis. In this case, the solution is micro wind turbines. Micro wind turbines are essentially wind turbines on a scale of a couple of feet in height instead of thirty or forty feet. The idea is to place the turbines on the roofs of buildings to capture the wind that is often found rushing over the edge of roofs. They can also be placed on pedestals or otherwise some way of holding them towards the sky. So how is it possible, you ask? How can you build your own solar panels or wind turbines? Its actually much easier than it sounds. You can build them right from home for just a few hundred dollars, using parts commonly found at hardware stores everywhere. I at first thought it would be too much to do on my own, but saw past that fear in hopes it could be done. I am not a very mechanically inclined person, yet I do have the ability to follow simple, well laid out directions - and that is what I found!I currently utilize two sources of alternative energy and I wouldn trade the benefits for anything! I am using solar panels for extra electricity and an outdoor wood boiler furnace to heat the entire house and hot water. My electric bill averages $10-$20 per month! I started with the wood furnace, which brought my electric bill down from $125/month to about $75 per month. But the most popular use of wind energy today is of course to produce electrical energy. Diagnosing Mesothelioma Involves Medical Screening Methods

Malignant mesotheliomais known to have a few primary symptoms. The primary symptom of pleural mesothelioma is having trouble breathing due to pleural effusion ” the buildup of fluid in the pleura, or membrane, surrounding the lung. The next most common symptomis chest pain because the chest wall is being attacked by the tumor. Symptoms may also include fatigue, loss of weight and night sweats

The primary symptom of patients with abdomen mesothelioma, which begins in the abdomen, is abdominal swelling due to fluid buildup in the abdomen (a condition called ascites), pain in the abdomen, and blockage of the bowel.

It is important to note that many of these symptoms may be caused by other conditions. Nevertheless, you should see a doctor if you have been exposed to asbestos and have experienced any of these symptoms.

Pleural mesothelioma cancer is difficult to diagnose, because less serious conditions also cause similar symptoms. Symptoms typical for mesothelioma:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest or lower back pain associated with an excess of fluid in the pleura
  • Running a temperature
  • Upset stomach
  • Breathy voice
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Spitting up blood

One should not self-diagnose themselves. One suffering from any of the above symptoms should see a doctor and remain calm. Performing a biopsy is the standard way to confirm the condition. A pathologist removes a piece of tissue from the region that cancer is suspected and performs an examination that will result in a very accurate diagnosis. Biopsies are generally not painful.

CT scans (Computed Tomography) are an option to avoid a biopsy. A CT scan is basically an X-ray procedure where cross-sectional images are taken as a scanner rotates around the body. Sometimes, the patient ingests a dye that helps define the picture. CT scans might be advantageous because of their simplistic and non-invasive nature, and they are considered an effective way of diagnosing the disease. Opinions vary whether a CT scan or biopsy is cheaper. If there are irregularities, a biopsy may also be ordered to determine if a tumor exists, and if so, if the tumor is benign or malignant. Diagnosis of pleural mesothelioma is also possible by taking a sample of fluid from the pleura and testing it for the presence of cancer cells.

Mesothelioma can also be screened and then diagnosed by any of these methods. Patients are screened when they suspect they may be at risk but do not have typical symptoms, to ensure they are not at risk to get the cancer or to catch the cancer early. Patients who have in their past inhaled asbestos, should be screened for mesothelioma.
