Is it worth it to Try to Steal this Pot?

July 12th, 2010 at 2:30 pm (Have Fun, Online Casino, Web Of Games)

Is It Worth It To Try To Steal This Pot? By B. Butler Some pots you can only win by bluffing. You missed your draw or never even really had a draw to begin with, and yet your poker opponent has not fully convinced you he’s unbreakable. Something in the back of your head tells you firing might pick you up the pot, and even if you’re unsure, it’s certainly the only way you have left to win. So how do you decide when bluffing on the river is right and when it’s wrong? Before the question of what poker online hands you can represent and what range of poker hands your opponent might have comes into play, you might want to ask first, is it worth it to try to steal? Sure, any pot is worth something, but in other spots you need to consider first how much you’ve committed in there, and how much there is to gain. If the size is so minimal that it will be hard to make a bet that seems scary or convincing enough to take the pot down, then likely it might be better just to concede this one and wait for one more juicy and ripe for the taking. Thereafter you should consider whether your opponent is more a calling station, or a scaredy cat. If he’s stubborn, you might want to give him space more often than not.

Tips for Short-Handed Tables

June 16th, 2010 at 9:39 am (Have Fun, Online Casino, Web Of Games)

Poker tables sometimes are short-handed, meaning not every seat is filled. Instead of having nine or ten people at the table, there are only five or six. In cash poker games, players come and go, leaving seats empty for a time. If you survive to a final table in a poker tournament, then you will probably face the short-handed situation.

When playing short-handed, keep these tips in mind:

* Observe your opponents intently to see who is tight, who is aggressive and who bluffs.

* It is easier to spot player patterns and trends at these tables, such as always raising on the button or blind, so look for them.

* You can widen your range of starting hands since the field is naturally smaller.

* Play aggressively when you the flop hits your hand.

* Be ready to withstand some wide swings in your chip stack. You’ll be involved in more pots, so there will be more ups-and-downs than in a full table game.

* Recognize who is your toughest opponent and steer clear of that player if possible. Be ready to fold rather than risk a lot of chips with marginal hands when against a player you can’t read.

* Remember that drawing hands have less value and don’t offer the same pot odds as when the table has multi-way action.

Record Stamina

January 11th, 2010 at 11:00 am (Have Fun, Online Casino, Web Of Games)

A new poker record was recently set by a British player for any one individual playing one continuous poker session. Paul Zimbler played for 74 hours, 20 minutes and 21 seconds straight during the 2009 World Series of Poker Europe.

His intention was to break the all-time record for session duration set in 2008 by David Cain who played poker for more than 72 hours straight. Cain started his session determined to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records by surpassing the previous record set by Larry Olmsted who held record from a 72-hour session in 2004 at Foxwoods Casino.

Zimbler not only broke the record, but he earned close to £35,000 for several charities. He played heads-up for nearly 75 hours against 200 different opponents, some of whom included well-known poker winners such as Annette “Annette_15″ Obrestad, Phil Hellmuth and Mike Matusow.

Zimbler, also known as “The Marbella Kid,” had to be carried away from the table at the end of his record-setting session. He played a total of 183 heads-up matches and won 102.

Obviously this is extraordinary feat is possible only for those with exceptional stamina. Some poker players can go on long marathons of playing cards and it is essential during these sessions to take breaks and refresh yourself. When you play poker for more than a few hours, whether online or in a live poker room, you need to be sharp. That means rested, hydrated and nourished so that your brain stays focused and working.

When Releasing Thai Lanterns

December 7th, 2009 at 3:05 pm (Great Entertainment, Have Fun)

Khoom Fay are traditionalistic Thai lanterns, made from cut weave paper with a bamboo frame. A burning pod tied to the lantern offers hot airThey ascend graciously, and create a extraordinary spectacle, specially when released at regular intervals to form a chain of lighters rising into the sky. They are equally good by day or by nighttime. Night releases seem more suited to the classic white lanterns whilst Coloring lends itself nicely to Thai Lanterns liberated in the day individual view of course but i do congratulate myself on being 100% all of the time.Cautiously unpack the Thai Lantern, without tearing the delicate paper. Ensure the lantern is not crinkled or hanging sideways and that it is amply extended.. This is best complete by holding the top of the lantern, gently lifting it a couple of feet, then acutely dropping it. Air force will expand the unit.Have a assistant light the wick whilst you hold the lantern upright. The Lantern will being to feel lighter, then rise step by step. Just guide it and let it go by itself, do not attempt to throw it up into the air. Now unwind and enjoy the showThese lanterns are thought for use by experienced pyrotechnic operators. Wear fire retardant wear and mitts, and have a pail of H2O convenient.

These matchmakers have been in this business for nearly ten years now. Their service is the work of trained professionals, based on scientific methods. Psychologists and relationship experts helped to found the profile methods Date.com uses.

Also, you can search the profiles using more specific details, truly as detailed as you like. As always, people want to know who or what they are meeting, so it is best to add a photo of yourself. Ludicrous Behavior as a Weapon at the Table

September 28th, 2009 at 9:11 am (Have Fun, Online Casino, Web Of Games)

You’ve seen it before, people who take out all their frustrations on other poker players for making bad calls or they make fun of bad plays. These people are crass, they take out their bad beats on the dealers, and they generally are just asses to be around. But what if I told you that there was a psychological secret behind this kind of berating other players that could be used to your advantage. A psychological gamesmanship if you will that you can use to help you profit from other online poker players. Things you can do that will help push players just hanging on over the edge and cause them to tilt. Things that will change your table image into what you want it to be at the time. Some players intimidate easily. So maybe talking to them about their online poker hand as if you’re a mind reader (when really you’ve just used process of elimination got deduce what their hand is based on betting), but when you call out their exact hand and tell them what they have, they immediately begin to fear you as a poker player. You’ve earned their respect by being able to read them so well. You can also rib those over aggressive players just over the brink. Say you have a super aggro sitting at your table and he’s all about raising preflop with 80% of his hands. Call him on it, tell him if he’s going to bully the table around that he needs to learn to do it right and stop making sissy bets. Get him to start pushing harder and then when someone or yourself has a monster preflop, you reraise him and tell him “This is how you bully a bully,” proceed to dominate his hand and take his chips, you’ll have successfully put him on tilt and it’s easy money for the rest of the time he stays there. And these are but a few of the tricks you can use while talking at the table to get players to do things they don’t want to do but you want them to do. Be creative and use it on everybody. After all, it’s a lot more fun to take someone’s money while you’re talking it up and having a good time than to just take their money.

Back to Back Bracelets

May 22nd, 2009 at 9:17 am (Have Fun, Online Casino, Web Of Games)

Since the World Series of poker was launched by Benny Binion in 1970, four poker players so far have the Main Event back-to-back times, successfully defending their titles as World Champion. Two of these champs actually went on to win the Main Event for a third time.

Johnny Moss won the first and second WSOP Main Event in 1970 and 1971 The first WSOP winner was decided by a vote and Moss won a silver trophy. There is no record of the WSOP prize money for that year, but Moss earned $160,000 in 1971. He also won the 74 WSOP event, and played in every WSOP from 1970 through 1995, winning nine career bracelets.

Doyle Brunson won back-to-back Main Event bracelets in 1976 and 1977. Both times he won with what is considered a trash hand, 10-2, now known as the “Brunson Doyle.” During his poker online career, he has won a total of ten bracelets, and is known as the “Godfather of Poker.” After his famous wins, he wrote what is considered the bible of poker strategy, “Super Systems.”

Stu Ungar had a genius IQ and was a true idiot-savant at card playing. He won the Main Event in 1980 and 1981. Substance abuse took its toll on his health and abilities, and he was considered all washed up; but then came back to win the Main Event again in 1997.

The most recent back-to-back Main Event winner is Johnny Chan, who took the bracelet in 1987 and 1988. He was the first player ever to win ten WSOP bracelets.

Red/Blue Token Winner Take All Sng Frenzy

April 2nd, 2009 at 10:52 am (Have Fun, Online Casino, Web Of Games)

Now that SpadeClub give online poker players a larger point allowance and the tournaments are actually cheaper, I decided to go on a frenzy of playing blue token sit and go tournaments instead of going to the casino. They only cost 75 points to register, so I registered for as many as were available. Once one started, I’d register for the next one, and so on.

I also decided to employ a new reckless beginning strategy. These are winner take all events, so I decided an early lead would put me in a better spot to win outright. The standard sit and go strategy is to play tight until the blinds are large enough to steal or make shoves on. The players aren’t that good, and certainly aren’t very disciplined, so sometimes playing good poker will not get you very far. Your opening raises will get called by a wide range of hands, probably by a few players. That’s what makes it hard to play at the low blind levels early in a sit and go. So, n each of these sit and go’s, I decided to go all-in on the first hand, regardless of my hand.

Now, this is not a recommended strategy for a regular poker online tournament, but may not be all that terrible in a winner take all event. At some point, you’re going to be card dependent and you will be all in. You might be lucky enough to have a big pair or some other premium holding, but a lot of times, the big all ins are coinflips or 60/40’s. If you take the risk early and win, you can sit back and coast to the top 4 or 5 and then begin to play aggressively when the blinds are worthwhile. Doubling up early does not guarantee a win, but it ensures that you can wait longer, and if you lose one of these coinflips later in the game, you won’t be knocked out. On the other hand, if people just keep folding to your all-ins, you’re increasing you chips, but creating a loose maniacal image. You can then maybe start playing more straightforward and see how they play back at you.

Out of about 5 of these games, I think I won the first hand twice, lost twice, and got no action in the other. In one of the games where I won the first hand, I went on to win a token.

Building a Poker Professional

January 8th, 2009 at 10:10 am (Have Fun, Online Casino, Web Of Games)

What is the formula that distinguishes a poker pro from a non-professional? Sure it could be that one derives all of his or her income from the game, but when we think of professionalism, does it not encompass something more, something that exists within the actions of an individual as well?

One person seems to share this belief, one George “The Engineer” Epstein, a highly regarded poker extraordinaire and columnist for Poker Player News. For Epstein, there certain other criteria that must be met, just as a business professional or medical professional does more with their career than simply carry out the duties of the workplace.

Epstein’s criteria are as follows: 1.) Is highly skilled and knowledgeable 2.) Exercises expert judgment [about the game] 3.) Is a winning palyer 4.) Demonstrates high ethical behavior 5.) Exercises autonomy 6.) Contributes to the poker community and to society at large

Now let’s talk about these a little more. Parts one and three seem to go together pretty well. With skills and practice comes winning, and winning consistently is a prime example of a professional skill. Expert judgment also fits into this ideal, as the judgment comes from using the skills to win.

Now, just about anyone can come to, with years of practice, master the first three. But the last few are the sticking points for many people who aim to enter the professional sphere. There are some who just can’t shake the need to go after easy money, and will try to target weak players or search out beginners’ games just to rake in some winnings. The mark of a true professional is one who can consistently win at the top skill level. And this leads into autonomy, self-sufficiency basically. A poker player who can manage his own, will have learned not only how to play well at the highest caliber of competition, but will have the ability to manage the bankroll on top of it. He won’t have to resort to weak games to replenish his bankroll, and will be in control of his own finances and spending habits enough to be able to sustain through his competitive poker and not off of side games.

Finally, anyone who excels in something and is doing so because of a passion for it, usually gives back to that which made him. Just as doctors offer free clinical work in underprivileged areas, just as some of the richest in the world give back to charities they believe in, a poker player at the top tier should also give back to the community, not only the poker community, but the one they reside in everyday as well.
