Going Back to Jamaica

For our first wedding anniversary, we went to the same hotel in Jamaica where we had gotten married. It raised quite a few eyebrows among our friends and family when we told them that we were going back to Montego Bay for our holiday. There were questions like “why do you want to go to the same place? Don’t you want to go to a place that you have never seen? Wouldn’t you be bored eating at the same restaurants?” and comments like “if it is Jamaica you want to go to, there are plenty of other beachfront hotels in Negril or Ocho Rios that you can go to instead of the same resort in Mo Bay”. But we were very keen on going back to Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort in Montego Bay and continue from where we left off last year.

There were so many restaurants we wanted to try and so many tours that we wanted to go on that we could not accomplish in the one week after our wedding and that’s why we went back to Jamaica. Both of us adore water sports and adventure sports and we wanted to take the Chukka Jungle River Tubing ride. After breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant Regency suite and deck, and a half hour’s drive, we joined the river tubing ride. It was an amazing experience riding past coconut plantations and bamboo woods in the river which changed its pace off and on. Rapids, slow glides, peaceful lagoons, we saw the river in her many moods. After lunch at a local restaurant, we wandered around picking up souvenirs and little trinkets from the stalls in the market.

The next day we went river rafting in Martha Brae, enjoying the sounds of the forest and the call of birds as we drifted serenely down the river guided by the skilled captain of the raft. Perhaps we will come back next year to swim with the dolphins in Dolphin Cove and hike up the Dunn’s River Falls.
